Many people taking care of outdoor cats don't realize they can have a harder time finding water during winter time than food. Once the temp is below freezing it can be very difficult to find water.
Heated water bowls are a great solution. They only draw about 25 watts so they add virtually nothing to your electrical bill. The keep the water from freezing and give the cats a water source even in the coldest weather.
You can find them on ebay and amazon for roughly 25-30 dollars.
If you don't have a place to plug it in on the site you are taking care of the cats, I advise to bring warm water, perhaps even bordering on hot. That will last longer before freezing.
